Week 55 Montego Bay

Week 55 – 9/26/2016

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was full of great Spiritual Experiences! We went to Ochi this week for a baptism interview. There were 3 baptisms in our zone this week! Way cool 2 in Ochi and 1 in Mobay. Missionaries have been working hard. Ochi is beautiful. Reminds me of Kingston. Lots of people but a lot of them are not from Jamaica.

We Got to go to Falmoth on Wednesday. We showed a family from Utah where they could do a baptism in the ocean. Lucky boy just turned 8 and walked off the boat in white and drive to a really nice place! It was cool to see a family gather together for a baptism! Love how this gospel is centered on families.

In the mission our Mission President wants us to start challenging people to baptism! It is way fun to hear people reactions! Lots of people are wanting to be baptized. We are focusing a lot on the book or Mormon and the restoration. The Assistants called this week and said that we will be changing how we do some things. I've pondered a lot about what’s going to change and during sacrament meeting it just hit me that this is how we are going to baptize in the mission. The spirit hit me so strong it was such a cool experience. Love this gospel so much! Blessed my life enough and I love when I get answers from on high. Have to have Faith be patient and be diligent.

We did service at bro Campbell’s this week. Was pretty gross. We cleaned out his whole house!!! We took everything out and cleaned the house and then the stuff out side and put it back in the house. It was a small house so it didn't take all day but man it was dirty. It was fun to hear how he felt. He didn't know we were going to clean his house! It was a great feeling. Love serving others!

On Friday we did FHE! We did tin foil dinners! They didn't know about how amazing these things are!!

This gospel is true! I'm so grateful for this gospel. The key to life is in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If we can try to be like him we can overcome everything! The book or Mormon is true. We have to read it to find out though; We can't put off knowing if this book is true. It is. God answers Prayers.
Love you all and take care this week!  Elder Christensen

Week 54 Montego Bay

Week 54 – 9/19/2016

Dear Family and Friends -

This week was great! We went all over the place! We went to Bethel Town this week on Wednesday. We saw an awesome lady the sisters were teaching but they don't have a truck anymore so we have a lot of their area. She took us to a little pond and said there are mermaids in it! hahaha we laughed pretty hard. Also went to Ochi this week! We ate at a vegan place. I like my meat. Tofu is alright but a nice stake is always good!

We saw a lot of members this week! It was so great! Thursday we got a lot of food from the members. We had Sugar Cane and also some curry mutton.

We had FHE with Audrey's this week! We played Jeopardy with the family! Had some good food from them too for a treat! She made Stew Plum. It was soooo good than she took the sauce and put it over goat meat! Jamaicans make the best food!

We had 11 investigators at church! This area is on fire! Super excited for conference coming up! Always learn so much! Love having a modern prophet today!!

Week 53 - One Year Mark - Montego Bay

Week 53 – 9/12/2016

Dear Family and Friends -

This week was an awesome week! Full of a lot of things to do!

I was with Elder Johnson and Perkins for 2 days this week while the Zone leaders went to Ochi and Kingston for Trade Off's! It was nice to be with them seeing some of the people I taught with them. We saw Richard. He is doing well still! Hasn't read the book of Mormon yet but he is so interested. He doesn't want to put in the work but wants the answer. Too bad god doesn't work that way. If we want an answer we got to act upon our desires. If we want to know if the book or Mormon is true you got to read it and pray just like we are asked to do in Moroni 10:3-5. If we have any question we must pray and do what we need to do to get an answer. It’s simple but we have to have faith!

We went to Lucea this week which is an hour away from Montego Bay. Small little city where a branch use to be. It closed down due to lack of priesthood brothers. We saw Bro. Winters and Sister Spence. They are awesome members. It costs them 1000 dollars each to taxi to church and they don't work. Bless their souls. We are going to do some working up there once a week! Love going around Jamaica!

Yesterday we had a lot of investigators at church. We had 9 but they came late. 2 of the families that come live an hour away from the church so it is so cool to see them at church. Love these families.

During the week we taught Angela 1 Nephi 8. Was fun to draw with them what he kinda saw. I'm not the best of drawers but it was good for a start!

Love Jamaica! The people here are amazing. Love serving the lord! This is his church once again on the earth. I love helping him bring back the sheep into the fold!

Week 52 Montego Bay

Week 52  09-05-2016

Dear Family and Friends,

What an eventful week this week!

This week was crazy! On Monday it was a normal P Day we had 2 lessons that night that were great! Love having the spirit in the lessons. But After Monday it just got crazy. Tuesday we went to Black River on the South Coast to help some missionaries who got in a car crash. It was a 2 hour drive. WE were the closest people to them. We were able to help them out. Was early in the morning around 8 but we didn't get home until 8. Long Day. The next day we had a lesson than we had to go back to black river to get some of the things out of the sisters car that was at the police station. We got home late again. Thursday The Zone Leaders Went to MLC so i went with Elder Johnson and Perkins. It was weekly planning. I read some scriptures and talks while they were weekly planning. Learned a lot. Found a nice talk called the Blue Print of Christ's church. It is a beautiful talk. Friday we had Zone Conference. President Gonzales was there! He is the President over the Caribbean. He is way awesome. Zone Conference was spiritual. Talked about helping people fix their problems on their own. Really enjoyed it. Also talked about committing people to baptism. Got to always be doing it! Love the leaders in the mission! Grateful for them! Saturday got even better! Elder Ritchie got sick so I had to stay inside while the other 3 elders went teaching. We switched on Sunday so i got to go out! Man oh man it was a weird missionary week this week but really enjoyed serving! The Sisters that got in the car crash are doing really well! Jamaicans drive crazy here. Hope that doesn’t happen to me! I was able to Drive the Truck on Sunday. Boy oh Boy the roads are small. I was joking with elder Johnson that my Mom would probably be screaming the whole ride to the appointments. Fast cars + small roads = nuff trust in the lord,.

Love this gospel! The people in Jamaica are amazing love them all! Once they know who we are and that we aren't CIA they love us!

Big Up this week Famibly!

Week 51  08-29-2016

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was a full one! We had lots to do and lots of spiritual experiences. I hope they keep coming. We had a lot of times we could serve others this week.

On Tuesday we met a guy named Christopher Clark! He was way strong! When he walked out of his house I started laughing he was just so strong. He trains Actors and Actresses so they look good in movies he said! He travels to Europe and Middle East a lot to train people. He put a picture he took of Elder Johnson and I on Social Media!

On Wednesday we went to a place to eat after District Meeting in Savanah La Mar. They took our picture also and put it on social media! That was 2 this week!

We had a awesome lesson with a boy on the street. we were walking and we saw him praying. he was sweet! Really wants to change his live! Hope we can help him do that! Love this gospel so much!

Church was good! WE had 13 investigators at church! They were all late and came after sacrament but it was still so good to see them all there! Love this gospel lots of families we are working with!

Take care this week! The church is true!

Week 50 Montego Bay

Week 50  08-22-2016

Dear Family and Friends -

This week was full of ups and downs.

The Ups were that I was supposed to leave to the Bahamas on Saturday and then the assistants called on Friday and told me I have to pack now my flight leaves in 5 hours they had to change it to oh will now you aren't going quite yet because Elder Martinez said I have to wait until it is all done and can't go on a receipt. haha so close but that was the ups and downs. It was still a way good week this week!

Elder Senior just arrived from New Provenance Bahamas in Nassau. He is telling me all about it and it is just making me super excited!

Elder Johnson is Training so excited for him and he will be the district leader. The assistants said they don't know what to do with me until I leave haha. I'm just a floater I guess. Working hard where ever I go through!

Did service at the Ford's home this week. Her granddaughter really likes me and she doesn't know the missionary rules I guess because she isn't a member. haha man she was flirting with all us white boys on Tuesday! Boy oh boy all 3 of us elders wouldn't get far apart. We were next to each other the whole time. We got fed food there though- it was way nice! Rice and Peas with Fried Chicken! Should be Jamaica’s national dish! SO good!

Love the Jamaican food! We saw Audrey and her family this week a couple times. It takes an hour to drive to her house! Long car ride but elect family! They soon be baptized. They are just waiting on legal light. Hope it comes fast!
Lots of people steal light because it is so much. She wants to be baptized so she is getting legal light! The gospel really changes lives. Love what this does for people!

Nuff Love to you all!

Week 49 Montego Bay

Week 49  08-15-2016

Dear Family and Friends -

This week was a great one full of nice experiences!

This week we had a lot of lessons. It was nice to see a lot of people and see them progress during the week. Angela is now starting to move out of her house so she can get baptized soon. The branch is going to help her build her new home. Construction here is crazy hard but simple. Lots of heavy lifting and hand mixing cement but the house goes up and stands! She is great! Loves the book of Mormon!

Richard is another one of our investigators. He is so excited about the message we share now. We have been asking him for the last 4 lessons to read the track we left him he finally did it and he said it all makes sense. It gave me hope that because the church was lost god had to bring it back. That’s why we have this restoration!  He said it was a good awakening to him! He is going to be a kingdom builder here in Jamaica! He loves the book or Mormon just from reading out of the track. He couldn't believe it has only been translated 1 time! He said that means that there aren't any mistakes! haha oh never felt so happy this week!

We are in a Tri companionship! Elder jones went home today so we get to be in a truck with Elder Ritchie! it is nice not killing ourselves on a bike but I get way tired in a car. They like to play soft hymns that could put anybody to bed haha the pot holes in the road keep me awake though. Always hitting my head on the window :)

Still in Mobay! Crazy city but lovely people! lots of cruise ships come in and white people coming to church! Makes the church feel way full! Love this gospel. It is true! It just makes since if you ponder about it and pray and ask god if it is true! Love my god. He really and truly does bless us.

Week 48 Montego Bay

Week 48  08-8-2016

Dear Family and Friends -

This week went by fast! It is nice with a P day on a Tuesday every once and a while! Today we are in Kingston because Elder Jones is going home next week he has a class to take for returning missionaries. It is nice to be back in my old area! Love the busy city! So many people to talk to here! I hope all my investigators are doing good from Kingston. Today we woke up at 2:30 to get to Kingston in time! crazy drive! nice and long 4 hours.

Interviews were this week with President! He is great really love him! He is so real! He doesn't like Jamaican Patwah though but he says some pretty funny slang American words haha. He is very smart he came to my district meeting on Wednesday! Pretty scary but it went really well! We made goals for Montego Bay branch! Love it here in Mobay! Beautiful place!

Angela came to church finally on time! So happy she loved the sacrament. she said she wants to make special bread for it. She said only the best for the lord! haha she is great!

Richard our Referal from the sister missionaries is doing awesome. He asked us if we would die for our religion and if it was really the only and true church. We both bore strong testimonies. It was super spiritual. I think when we said we would die for our religion it touched him. Grateful for that experience.

I know this church is true. I could never not say it is not true. After reading the New Testament and the book or Mormon they just both work together. This is the fullness of the gospel! Love it live it and keep learning about it! Love being a missionary!

Week 47 Montego Bay

Week 47  08-2-2016

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was a great one!

After we emailed last week we went to the store. While we were there we met a nice anti Mormon guy who yelled at all of us missionaries in the store for 15 minutes. Said some nice things about us :) haha wasn't really nice Got to love everybody. I learned how good it is to keep your mouth shut when people are just going off on you. it worked. He would ask questions and we would just keep shopping. Nobody did anything. One woman told him leave but he didn't. He told us to go back to Utah. Too bad none of us were from Utah haha.

Went on a Trade off with Elder Jones this week! He served in Freeport about 6 months ago! He told me all about it! It will be way fun to get there. I'm still in Jamaica but loving it. I was lucky and got to be in the car yesterday on the trade off! Forgot how nice ac is!

There is a Tropical storm around Jamaica so it is nice and cloudy and rainy! Hopefully a huge storm don’t come and destroy Jamaica. Lots of service though! Love the service!

Finished the New Testament and Pearl of Great Price last week! Got the D&C and Old Testament left!

So grateful to be able to be on a mission. I know this Church is True. It makes scene. Reading the bible everything in our church just fits and we have it. Elder Jones said something bold to a woman he said if you Read and Ponder the Bible you will come to know that this is the same church that Jesus Christ set up during his ministry. It's true. The book of Mormon is the word of god as well! So grateful to have scriptures for our day that we can read all the while and learn! Love my Savior and all he did for me! The Atonement is real. Seeing people’s lives change is a blessing!

Take care this week! Enjoy the heat and the start of School!

Week 46  07-25-2016

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was a great one! We had a great P Day last week!

On Monday we went to Pier 1 and got some nice food! Everything was in American prices it was weird to see things cost so little but really it was a lot in Jamaican Money! We took some cool pictures on the Pier but it wasn't a pier like in California. The food was great! I had a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich!

On Saturday we were walking because the bicycle I was using wasn't working. We had a lesson in the morning with Havon! He is way awesome! He read the intro to the book of Mormon and the testimonies. He loved Joseph Smiths Testimony! He is going to be baptized for sure! He likes everything we have talked about! Latter in the day for lunch we went To Burger King! I was so excited for a shake but... they don't have any there... So sad. It was the hottest day of the week. Oh well got me a nice meal!

We have been seeing Angela as well and are teaching her baby father as well. She is trying to move away from him though. Sad how much the family is being attacked. Family is so important!

Well I’m going to be going to Freeport this week probably. Just got off the phone with the Assistants and If my work permit is in I’m leaving Tuesday (tomorrow)! I'm way excited but will miss the wonderful people here in MOBAY!! Montego Bay is a nice area!

Week 45 Montego Bay

Week 45  07-18-2016

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was super great!

I'm in Montego Bay! Oh my word it is beautiful here! I hope I get to come back here after I'm done with being in Freeport! The people here are so friendly! Always willing to talk to us! So many guys that will talk to us as well! Way cool! Our teaching pool has nuff guys! Usually there are more woman then men but it’s the other way here at church. Not enough women for the men to get married to haha.

At church there are two Rasta's that are members! They are way cool! Never would think i would see a Rasta in the church. They love their weed so much but i guess these two know the real good stuff where you can feel all the vibes you want. Church is that place!!

The hills here are crazy.... Bicycling up a mountain will not be a hobby of mine when I go home haha but got to get the work done!! Love it here in Mobay though!

Today we are going to Pier 1 where they have philly chese stakes :) super excited for that!

Week 44  07-11-2016

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was full of Surprises!

I'm getting transferred to Freeport Bahamas! I get to fly again! I'm super excited but I’m going to miss Jamaica! I'm going to be the only missionary with my companion on the island of  Freeport. It will be super cool though. I'm going to Montego Bay for 2 weeks waiting on paper work. I'll pretty much be white washing an island too! Start from scratch!

This week was full of goodbyes. Janiqua is sad I’m leaving she said she wanted me to baptize her. She should be baptized soon! She knows it is true just has to act! Action is key to everything. You can't believe in something and not act. You can't believe he candy is good and not taste it how will you know if it is good or not. Jamaican Candy is nice!

Marica hasn't smoked weed in two days I’m so happy for her! She is doing great!

I'll send nuff pictures in the Bahamas! I'm excited for a next journey!

Week 43 Kingston

Week 43  07-04-2016

Dear Family and Friends,

Hello Everybody!  What a spiritual week this week!! There was a baptism in our ward and we had 4 investigators at church!

This week we were super busy with missionary work and other work. The office Elders called us and said that they needed our help for a day. Oh bless those elders souls. Sitting in so many lines and doing so much work. I'm grateful for the work I’ve done out here.

We had some good lessons with Marcia and her family. We talked to her about her w

eed addiction. She has told us multiple times she wants to quit and we are teaching repentance and work of wisdom! It has been great! Pray for her she needs the help. Her sons are Rasta’s! They are cool but nuff spliffs around the Yard! She came to church on Sunday as well with her 2 children! Was awesome to see them there! Love the church!

Janiqua is doing really well! She came to the baptism the sister missionaries had on Sunday! She really liked it and she said in the lesson Sunday night that I said something that made her think. I told here you better get baptized sooner or later can't be waiting a year so she said she is not starting to think about being baptized :) She saw how happy Brother Watt was after he was baptized and she felt the spirit super strong! When brother Watt gave his testimony in church the sacrament hall was on fire with the spirit! Holy cow people were tearing up. All the missionaries were the mission president and some members! 1 person can make a huge difference in the ward! Man it was so awesome!!

I love being a missionary! I wish i could have you fallow Elder Kolomalu and I for a day and just see how much joy the work brings to our lives and others. Nothing makes us happier than when someone wants to learn more or wants to be baptized. I know that this work is our Fathers work and he loves all of his children. I know that the prophet is the mouthpiece of god and that missions are so important in live. This gospel is true and this church is true!!

Week 42

Week 42  06-27-2016

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was a great week!! We had lots of things happen!

First we finished the Plan of Salvation with Marcia and her Family! At the end we extended them a baptism date of the 29th of July. They were all excited and said that they want to work for that day! I'm super excited for them! Marcia still has a little weed problem but that will fix soon! Got to love the Atonement!

Second we saw the Whyte Family! Trevor and Suezann got engaged!! On Wednesday it was her birthday and Trevor showed up to work and gave her the ring!! The lesson we had with them last week we read 4 Nephi where it talks about they were married and blessed. Trevor said he wanted to be blessed so he thinks they should get married. He will be the first one in his family to get married so it was a big step for him.

We also got to go on a trade off with the Zone leaders this week. I got to be with Elder Anderson. It was a great day we saw a family 3 times during the day haha it was weird just going to their house 3 different times but it worked. For lunch we went to the Pegasus hotel where it was an all you can eat place. Elder Anderson paid for us haha it was a great meal.

I know this church is true. Jesus Christ does live and loves all of his children. I'm so grateful that we can all share this message with our friends and family and strangers. I love being apart of a work that will help me see my brother and sisters again in heaven. Love you all!!   Nuff Love,

Week 40 Kingston

Week 40  06-13-2016

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was great! I learned a lot from some General Authorities.

We had stake conference this week. One thing we learned was from the story of the Brother of Jared. The brother of Jared brought the stones to the lord. He had to bring something to the lord before he makes something great out of it! It was super great to hear that. We need to bring something to the lord before he makes something great out of it.

This week we had an awesome lesson with Janiqua. We watched the Mormon message with her about the man's family who died in a car crash due to a drunk driver. She felt the spirit! She wiped her eyes a couple times! Haha. We were talking about the plan of salvation and how we all have agency. The boy had the agency to get in the car drunk. We were also trying to relate how bad things happen to good people sometimes and it isn't that god doesn't love us but he has another plan for us. We read 2 Nephi 24 with her and it just clicked with her!

Elder Kolomalu is great we went to a Investigators house Shadean and there’s a lot of kids in the yard who love us and he is a great beat boxer so he lined up the kids and when he hit their heads he would beat box. it was so funny

Love this work love feeling the spirit for sure. When we were at stake conference I was listening to one of the General authorities and had the prompting to ask god if he was a truly called of god. I did what I was prompted and the spirit was so strong and I learned so much from the messages he shared. On Sunday he said in his testimony that he has met Christ and knows that he is real and he loves all of us... Wow the whole room went silent and the spirit was super strong. Love this gospel!!

Week 39 Kingston

Week 39  06-06-2016

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was a fun one!!

Elder Kolomalu is now in Kingston!! It has been way fun so far this week! We are teaching together like we have been companions for a couple months already! He is a pretty loving Missionary! Always trying ways to serve others! Gotta love those Tongans!

This week we saw Janiqua and had some very powerful lessons! She isn't working on Sunday either! It’s way cool how much faith she is getting it is growing that’s for sure. We watched the restoration video with her and she loved it!! she felt the spirit that’s for sure! She asked why did Joseph smith go through so much? Why did he stick with it? haha man she is awesome! Chris a member asked her "If you knew something was true would you back down from it if it meant losing your salvation?" haha way cool she said I would stick it out and finish the job! She is getting it and is reading the book of Mormon.

Elder Ashworth went home this week. I hope they put me on the do not kill missionary list. Haha I was with 2 missionaries going home in 1 transfer. Was a new experience. He was great though!! Loved the time with him.

I've been trying to get a Tupenue or a lava lava my who mission and Elder Kolomalu is the Man!

Had a Sour Sop this week. Tasted weird but was good! I like the Juice better than the fruit!

Week 38  05-30-2016

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was really awesome!! We got some new investigators and also a family to teach.
We are teaching this girl named Shadean, she is way cool and really loves the restoration. She is about to have a baby, number 3 for her and she is 25. Sad but she is excited to still learn.

Janiqua is doing awesome. she told us she is getting a job and her boss said she has to work on Sunday’s. We did a role play with her and practiced her saying no to working on Sunday so when she went into the interview she would know what to do. The spirit was super strong during that part! It was amazing so she told her boss and her boss said I’ll see what I can do and so she doesn't have to work on Sunday. She also came to church on Sunday too!! Way awesome!

Transfer week is this week. Elder Boyer is leaving and going to Port More :( Going to miss him but he will rock the island over there. Elder Ashworth goes home this week and I'm getting elder Kolomalu!! He was in my district in Spanish town. Super excited to be with him!

For district meeting this week President Brown came... wow that was scary haha it was super good though he shared a lot and I learned a lot from him. We talked about the importance of member work!! That is going to change Jamaica! Love President Brown!

Have an awesome week hope the summer is Bad! (means good in Jamaica)  haha peace and love!

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was nice!! I got a new companion!! Way excited for the work we get to do now! I'm with Elder Ashworth. He is from Idaho and is going home in 9 days now haha. My companions just keep leaving.

This week we had a lesson with a woman named Marcia. This guy that was sitting in was sharing his spiritual experience that he had when he dreamed about Jesus and he was inked up and finally Marcia told him "Stop Talking about being in the Spirit, we are living in the flesh now" haha We all started laughing.

I also got to go on a trade off with the Zone Leaders. That night I was with them Elder Boyer and Ostroski both got sick. haha good thing i left! Trade off with them was good. We went up the mountains and saw some people! Learned a lot especially on how important sharing a testimony is.

At Zone Conference this week we talked about less active work. It is really Rescue work. I loved that. These people need to be rescued. Working with them is special. Bringing someone back is super important!! Love that!!

Love being here in Jamaica!! Take it easy in the Heat during the summer!! It's getting nice and hot here :))

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was an up and down.

We had a good lesson week. We had a lot of members come out with us. That is always such a big help. People relate more to Jamaicans. They always have these crazy ways of explaining something and Jamaicans get it haha.

Elder Fowkes went home that sucked but happy for him. Learned nuff from him. We had a great 9 weeks together and found a lot of the lords children that want to learn.

Skype with the family this week! It was great!! Loved seeing them! They have changed so much it's crazy what 5 months can do! This next skype call will be even more change! Love The fam!

Week 35  05-9-2016

Dear Family and Friends,

This week way-way great!!

Went on a trade off with Elder Whitter. He is a Jamaican from Sav. We went to trench town. That was a cool place. Bob Marley grew up there. We were pretty close to his house didn't get to see it but soon come. When we were in there was a guy that saw me and started chasing after me yelling stop him stop him I want his Bike!! haha I Turned around and he was gaining on me and I asked if he was good and he said STOP!! haha I just rode off and stayed safe. Jamaica is crazy man!!

We are having great lessons with our investigators. We have talked about investing in our investigations a lot lately and we have done that. It works we have a great pool. We should have 5 baptisms in June so super excited!

On Friday we weekly planned and then ate lunch and then the rain came pouring down. It was so bad we didn't go out until 6 when we were sick of staying in the house. We got soaked pretty fast. When we were going down Olympic Way to see Shari and Franchell Elder Fowkes Hit a big pot hole and burst his tire! It was so funny we both started busting up laughing. It was sad because we had to walk home in the rain. The zone leaders picked us up though thank goodness!! Grateful for them!! Loving Jamaica!! Excited to skype next week with the Family!! See ya soon! :)
